How did we get here? It’s been over a two year process for many of us which included lots of prayer, God’s Word, research, conferences, hearing from many of you, hearing from one another, and LOTS OF PRAYER! The combining of children, youth and young adults and partnering with parents for a more holistic and biblical approach to ministry became evident through this time.
As our stated goal is to more fully partner with parents, we realize the following:
- Parents have a God-given privilege and responsibility to be the primary disciplers of their children. We believe our role includes allowing greater opportunities for this.
- We should limit the frequency and quantity of time children and parents are expected to be at church.
- Families ought to enjoy the Sabbath together.
In addition, looking through the lens of discipleship and evangelism, we acknowledge:
- The most effective discipleship among young people at Truro happens through small groups.
- Children and youth, just as adults, are called to serve; through serving they find a place in the church.
- Reaching out to the un-churched happens best when it takes place in our community rather than on our church campus.
Finally, as our church focuses on how we live out hospitality and “making room” for God and one another, we address these points:
- Having a communal meal when we ask the families to be here for extended periods of time.
- Inviting other children/youth (neighbors) to our homes gives us great opportunity to offer them hospitality through Christ like love and acceptance.
Taking time to get to know our neighbors give us the chance to develop relationships, be a “front porch” and fertilize the soil for opportunities to share the Good News!
